Cecil Howell —

Cecil Howell’s practice spans visual art, design, and landscape architecture. After 9 years at landscape architecture firms, including Hargreaves, Future Green, and Margie Ruddick Landscape, Cecil created her own studio, Object + Field to expand her practice beyond the conventions of the built environment. The studio is centered on the idea that the landscape is as much a series of questions as it is a place. 

Since opening Object + Field, she has has been supported by artist residencies at MacDowell, Blue Mountain Lake Center, and the Watermill Center, as part of One Landscape, an interdisciplinary arts and science collective. Her writing and visual art have appeared in Wonderground Journal, Burnaway Magazine, and Orion Magazine, and she is a fellow at the Elizabeth Foundation for the Arts. She frequently collaborates with the artists and designers Maya Lin, Edwina von Gal, and Margie Ruddick.
